What happened
In simple words
We are not doctors, so we have explained everything exactly as the hospital told us, in plain language anyone can understand.
What is the pancreas, and what went wrong?
The pancreas is a small organ that sits behind the stomach. It makes the juices that digest our food, and hormones like insulin that keep blood sugar in control.
In acute pancreatitis, these digestive juices suddenly start attacking the pancreas itself. The organ becomes swollen and inflamed. It is extremely painful, and in severe cases the inflammation spreads and starts affecting other organs. That is what has happened to Sumit.
On 20 October, he was diagnosed and admitted to GMCH Guwahati. Since then he has been under treatment in the gastro ward, on IV fluids and medicines, unable to eat normally.
How serious is it?
His test reports (you can see them yourself on this page) show that this is a severe attack:
- His pancreas enzymes are 17 to 34 times higher than normal.
- The ultrasound shows a swollen pancreas and free fluid collected inside his belly.
- His liver is enlarged and under strain, and his blood shows strong inflammation.
The doctors at GMCH are doing their best and have stabilised him. But they have told the family clearly: if he is shifted to a good private hospital with intensive care and advanced support, there is a real chance of recovery. Private treatment at this stage is very expensive, and that is the only thing standing between Sumit and that chance.

About Sumit
The man who always took care of everyone
Sumit Sarkar is 33 years old and works as an Area Manager at MSN Group, a pharmaceutical company in Guwahati. He originally belongs to Nagaon, Assam, where his mother lives.
Sumit is his mother's only child. He lost his father when he was in class 10. Since then, he has been the sole backbone of his mother. Everything she has today rests on his shoulders. He has no spouse, no siblings, and no financial cushion. What he earned, he gave to his mother and lived simply.
Today, the man who took care of everyone all his life needs people to take care of him. That is why we, his family, relatives, cousins and well wishers, are collecting donations, however small, for his treatment.
